September Is Subluxation Awareness Month!

The first chiropractic adjustment for a subluxation was demonstrated on September 18th 1985. It was then that Chiropractic care started to develop into a legitimate and successful form of treatment for individuals with health ailments.

Subluxations are one of the most common reasons why people turn to chiropractic care.

When the motion or position of the spinal bones are compromised this can create absolute chaos within the body, not only affecting the spine but also causing stress, pain and discomfort to other areas of the body. Subluxations inhibit the body from operating properly in almost every way.

Incorrect positioning of the spine can and most likely, will irritate, compress or stretch nerve tissue, which is already extremely delicate. As the immune system weakens, strength and coordination are negatively affected and organs may cease to function normally.

However, getting adjusted by a licensed chiropractor can increase your body’s white blood cell count by thirty percent! A raise in white blood cells means that your body can defend itself against the common cold, the flu and other contagious illnesses. Getting adjusted is not just for adults, children can also benefit from chiropractic care especially during that time of year when the common cold is most prominent. Having your child adjusted can help raise their immune systems to help fight against those nasty viruses.

Subluxations cause an increase in pain levels, pain consistency, as well as stiffness and fatigue. As if the physical symptoms weren’t enough, there could also be major affects to stress and our state of mind. It’s important to realize that subluxations are not just a tight wound, sore muscles in your back. They are silent killers which over time decreases the body’s immunity to disease. Think about subluxation this way, if you tie a piece of string around the tip of your finger very tightly and held it there, would you simply put hot water on it to decrease the tightness in your finger? No. Would you try and rub the tip of your finger to ease the tension of the string? Maybe, but the string is still tightly wound against the finger tip. The only way to ease the tension is to release the string from the finger. In essence, the only way to relive and treat subluxation is to release that damaging tension from the spine. This is accomplished through chiropractic adjustments.

Community of Life

Community

Without COMMUNITY we would not survive!  Our society is built on culture, and connection to others.  A well known story from a WWII hospital orphanage sadly discovered that babies who are not held will die, even if well fed.  An article just came out about a mother, whose baby was pronounced dead at birth.  She held him to say goodbye, and after two hours the baby came back to life!  This wonderfully illustrates how vital sharing the life force with each other is.  Without contact we do not grow to speak, think or act to our potential.  Communities provide our friends, our families, our support and our health. They provide outlets for our creativity, and exposure to new ideas, people and places. Many studies have demonstrated that people who are involved in their communities tend to live longer and happier lives.  Connection is the key the success of our species, and ironically, modern culture has ingrained the importance of self reliance, sole solidity, and independence above all morals.

The definitions given in the dictionary all fall short of what a real community offers.  Its a home, a friend, a deep and lasting connection with people that may share a locale or interest, but most importantly share love.  Love for a place, love for each other, love for humanity or earth or another interest.  Community is the people you see everyday, the people you intentionally gather with, the people you share your wins and losses with, the places that inspire you and the people that go there with you. Community is so much more than just people! People don’t exist without the community of plants, animals, water and air. Have you ever gone a day without air? Without air there are no plants, without water there are no plants, or animals. We are a deeply interconnected community on Earth, of all living things. We live in the precious balance and harmony by respecting other beings rights to be here, and ultimately, provide for us humans!

Here are some things you can do to strengthen your experience of community. Think of it like gardening your friends.  Plant seeds, water, weed and celebrate the harvest!

Addiction

ADDICTIONS

In recent months Dr John participated in a study to see if NET work could help clear the emotions that lead to the addiction of smoking cigarettes.  He has found this method to be extremely useful, and has helped people ease the addiction to smoking. Any focus of addiction, whether it be smoking, coffee, bad relationships, drinking, or prescriptions all stem from the same need within us.  We had some need that was not met, and we adapted by using something to distract us from the pain of lack.  In conducting the stop smoking study we have seen the connectivity between all addictions and original events in life that lead to negative feelings.  With NET, we can clear those emotions and help ease the demand of addiction on our beings and psyche.

Ask Dr John today to clear an addiction for you!

Fibromyalgia symptoms ease with Chiropractic

Chiropractic Helps Fibromyalgia

Up to 5 million Americans have a syndrome known as Fibromyalgia and possibly over  80% of those people suffering this syndrome are women.  It is a difficult syndrome to diagnose, because so many of the symptoms overlap with other issues.  Typically people with fibromyalgia experience widespread, and frequent pain lasting for at least 3 months, are fatigued, have diffuse tenderness in up to 18 different parts of the body, stiffness, IBS, sensitivity, have trouble sleeping and concentrating.  There are many theories as to the cause of this syndrome, including emotional stress, injury, illness, candida overgrowth, adrenal problems and it can even occur spontaneously. There is current research that shows that people with fibromyalgia are more likely to have certain gene combinations, however they are still researching if this is more likely to occur in families due to environmental or genetic reasons. Current science research says that people with fibromyalgia may have a gene that causes them to react more strongly to stimuli, that in others, would not perceived as painful.

Treating fibromyalgia is all encompassing.  There are as many ways to treat it as there are symptoms.  If an emotional stressor brought it on, therapy or emotional release methods such as Neuro Emotional Technique might help.  People report that massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, epsom salt baths, improved diet, exercise and meditation can all help ease the symptoms of the syndrome.  It might seem counter intuitive, but all the things that a body with fibromyalgia is having trouble doing, are all the things that need to be prioritized.  Make time for self care with early bedtimes, gentle exercise routines, and healing foods. Chiropractic can improve these symptoms by improving overall functioning of the nervous system and has been shown to decrease pain in many chronic conditions. A study published recently stated more than 60% of the participants who underwent thirty chiropractic treatments showed significant reductions in pain intensity and improvement in their overall fatigue and quality of sleep. Fibromyalgia sufferers reported less joint pain after being placed on raw food vegan diets. Your favorite chiropractor can help you design a care plan specific to your needs that is based on Nutrition, exercise and regular chiropractic adjustments.

Overwhelm and Stress

How is Stress affecting you?

Emotional stress, physical stress, and spiritual stress can all contribute to leaving you feeling overwhelmed, and spent. Stress is an ever evolving system response to the changing stimulus of our environment.  We can feel stressed by our jobs, personal conflicts, project deadlines, demands of time or money. It may surprise you that the feelings of stress may have nothing to do with the stress in your life.  Poor posture, prolonged sitting, and accident, or an old injury can all lead to spinal stress. Chronic pain and muscle tension can cause you to experience nervousness and irritability,or nervousness and irritability can cause chronic pain and muscle tension.  We can help you unravel this catch 22.

Chiropractic care can help give your nervous system a greater capacity to adapt to stress. Like a vacation, in just a 15 minute appointment.  Chiropractic can be similar to exercise by reducing tension in the nervous system, improving your ability to tolerate and adapt to the stresses of modern life. We seem to exhibit stress and strain in the weakest area of our bodies. That area will be the first to go, like the weakest link in a chain. Finding the weak links in your spine and helping restore better function, can make a profound difference in your response to stress. Stress can show up as an upset stomach, recurring headaches, back pain, or muscle stiffness. Others may have nervous twitches, allergic reactions, or chemical sensitivities. Regardless of how your body responds to stress, your nervous system is involved, which is why chiropractic is such an important adjunct to your busy life.

The chiropractic approach to stress is to help normalize the function of your nervous system by removing interferences caused by spinal joint dysfunction.

Biodynamic!

Biodynamic farming is a subset of permaculture, both which offer solutions to the problems of modern agriculture. A short list of these issues includes; monoculture, deforestation, biodiversity desecration, toxic chemical use, soil depletion, job loss, habitat pollution and loss of culture. All of these problems are fundamental issues that have a chain of ramifications, like deteriorating health and lowered function in society.

Permaculture is based on the idea of creating a “permanent culture.”  This implies farming, building and lifestyle practices that can be sustained throughout generations of human life.  This is contrary to the way that society is currently functioning, but it is completely essential for our future.

Biodynamic practices live within permaculture.  The word bio comes from latin and means life, dynamic can be defined as a force that stimulates change or progress within a system.  In this way, Biodynamic farming practices are sustainable resource management, and resource growth that benefits all systems.  There are a lot of vineyards that operate within biodynamic principles, because using this system feeds better grapes, making better wines. It is sensible for a farmer to look to the long term effects of their practices to sustain their land as long as possible.  To do this a farmer must nourish the soil, the land surrounding their farm, and the people that support the farm.  The first developer of biodynamic farming believed that supporting ourselves in this ethical way allowed our spiritual connection to grow.

So what does that equate to?

Biodynamic permaculture is the process of building a sustainable and evolving culture that is supportive to all life.

Why do I care?

We are all interconnected in this life.  Everything we do affects another being.  If I eat well, take care of my body and choose to be happy those around me will be positively affected.  When you smile at another person, or talk with a stranger instead of being on your smartphone, you are positively affecting your world.  Choosing food from farmers in your neighborhood is more ethically sustainable because you are supporting a person in the community, making a connection, and providing better quality food for yourself.   Biodynamic living is a way to improve your connection to food, improve your connection to community, and ultimately take better care of yourself and our future.

We here at Life Chiropractic are passionate about sharing and developing this kind of community within our world.  We want to support you to reach out and make healthy connections, and develop a lifestyle that supports all of our well beings!

Clarity

Clarity!

We recently spoke about the word ‘Light’.  When we focus on lighting up our lives through health, wellness, truth and love, the life changing results are CLARITY!

When you have clarity, you possess a clearness of mind, free from obscurity and easy to understand. It means clearness, like water fresh from the mountain spring.  Adding light to your inner mixture, allowed you to identify where you were cloudy, and where darkness was lurking.  Through the light, we can foster clarity by being centered and grounded in the present moment, knowing what our goals are, and having open and honest communication with ourselves, primarily, in addition to our families and community.

Use journaling to discover what drives you, and where you are going.  Here are a few questions to ask yourself to discover and create clarity:

    What are my biggest accomplishments?

What are my biggest stumbling blocks?

These questions will give you a sense of what your values are.  When you have a clear idea of what values most to you, you can align your habits to those values, and from there, develop goals.

Make a list of your values.

List 3 goals that you consider to be vital

You have now done some wonderful inner searching, and just from this can get connected with yourself, which always helps you feel good.  Take it to the next level:

MAKE A GAME PLAN!

Underneath each goal, make a list of how you can get there with as much detail as you can muster.  Some people find this easier by working backwards and imagining what it would take to get to where you are going.  Do you need to start a savings account, get a gym membership, get nutrition counseling?  In your game plan list 3 people for each goal that you can call on. One to ask for help, another keep you accountable, and another to be your cheerleader.

At Life Wellness we want to help you achieve these goals, whatever they are!  Chiropractic alignment, NET and QN Light Therapy will help with gaining clarity.  We can also check beliefs and clear the negative beliefs that are preventing you from achieving your goals. We can help align your body, mind and spirit for success!

Light!

This is the time of year when our systems become enlightened with the longer days, more motivation, warmer weather.  The sun is actually moving closer to the earth, charging our bodies with more and more light energy.  As humans we receive light through our skin from the sun, and that is beneficial because it processes vitamins in our body such as C and D, it can alleviate symptoms of depression, seasonal depressive disorder, and anxiety and nervousness. There is even evidence that suggest humans recover from surgery, and illness faster when exposed to natural light. Natural light also regulates sleep patterns, and possibly improves risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension.

Its obvious our systems benefit from this all powerful energy from the sun, the whole earth is built to circle around it! Our systems are adapted to receive this energy daily, but did you know our system is also built to EMIT LIGHT?!?!?  Human energy emits light, that when shining bright enough can be seen, even, from space! When the human body is healthy, with strong mental clarity we can even improve how bright our light shines. This light that we emit is lower on the UV scale than most human eyes can pick up, but we can feel it.  Have you heard human energy is described as a fire within? Think of how many songs or stories you know about shining humans, the light of love, how illumination is related to love, health and truth?

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!

Turn on your love light, let it shine on me!

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray!

This light that we humans have evolved to shine, is something use to communicate with each other, without our conscious awareness. Some people can feel the wellness, or truth of a person, without it being communicated verbally.  You know you get that feeling that you can trust a person you’ve hardly known?  This is an example of light communication. Truth is light in the body.  Illness is darkness in the body.  Where there is no communication, there is illness.

If you have been into the Docs office here lately you have probably had Dr John waving a cold laser on your body.  This technology is based on a new technology, quantum neurology.  Quantum Neurology is nervous system rehabilitation by improving communication in various parts of your body.

We are so excited to share this revolutionary and totally new healing method with you!  We are here to help your little light shine, and grow into a big light!

Recipe of the Week: Grandpa’s Roasted Asparagus

Recipe of the Week:

Grandpa’s Roasted Asparagus

Asparagus is in season in early spring! Eating seasonal food is good for the immune system, and lessens food intolerances.  The body has adapted to eating different foods in every season of the year. These variances allow the body to rest and recover, and allow different nutrients to enter the body system precisely when it needs it most. Its amazing how earth provides what our bodies need, when we require it.  For example, watermelon is extremely hydrating, and cooling.  You will find watermelon in the height of its season in the most hot part of the summer, when you need cooling and hydration.  Wise and Genius Earth!

One of the benefits of eating in season is produce is so much better tasting and higher quality when it is in season.  Ever notice that a tomato in January is a sad tomato, but a tomato in August is heavenly? Scientist have actually documented that food grown in its prime season has different, and usually better, nutrient content.  Its also usually cheaper to buy food in season!

In honor of Spring, I am sharing one of my favorite seasonal recipes from my grandfather, his simple and wonderful roasted asparagus.  My family likes the skinny asparagus, but experiment and you will find that the big and the little ones have a vastly differing taste profile. You may also notice the the organic asparagus and garlic have more flavor than the conventional kind. Have fun with the recipe.  You can use other spices, or add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.  Use as much garlic as you like, and as little salt as you need.  Any oil is a good choice, but my family favorite was olive.

Ingredients:

Bunch of asparagus spears

Fresh garlic cloves

Himalayan sea salt

Extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

Cut about a half inch from the bottom of each asparagus spear and lay it flat on a cookie sheet.  Cover the asparagus spears in oil.  Dice as much garlic as you like and sprinkle over the top of the asparagus.  Sprinkle with a little salt and love.  Roll the asparagus around in the pan, and cover all sides of the spears with the goodness.  Broil in a preheated oven for 5 minutes, or until just a little bit crispy around the edges.  Let cool and Enjoy!

Word of the Week: Renewal!

Word of the Week:

Renewal!

Earth is reviving herself with rains, blossoms and babies. It can be a rewarding time to check in with yourself, also. We all can get habituated, and its important to check in with the self through meditation. Its time to tune in, and tune up! Take time to sit quietly and reflect on these, or other important questions.  Remember the intuition only contains positive and uplifting self talk.  Your guidance for change will come to you like the advice from a perfect parent.  Reassuring, understanding and truthful.  You will know the answers when  you come upon them.

How are you doing?  What do you need to thrive in this upcoming year? Is your body sending you signals to adapt your diet, adapt your health practices, or adapt emotional fluidity?  What is calling to your spirit for renewal?

Once arriving at some positive, helpful answers, making an action plan will help you adapt to the changes your life is asking for.  Decide on what changes can be made today, and the goal of these changes happening a month, six months, and a year from now.  Imagine the details of how your health, emotional and spiritual well being will unfold.  Spend a few minutes with this, and maybe write some of these images down.

Now that you have assessed your inner wellness, and made an action plan, its time to get involved!  Ask for help from your spouse to work out with you, or help by encouraging healthier eating. Tell your friends that you committed to thinking more positively about your life so they can catch you when you fall. Get your family involved by being outside more together, or making play dates with friends at parks, instead of at the house. Spend some time with your favorite holistic chiropractor to discuss these changes, keep you accountable, track your changes and help you along the way.  Your spine plays a vital role in keeping you healthy.  As the house of our nervous system, spinal alignment affects everything your body does.  Keeping proper spinal alignment is critical to our continued renewal and regeneration.  Commit to yourself today!  Have the courage and faith to make positive change in your life!
